    Description

This is a wonderful item ! Edited by Elizur Wright Jr. Quarterly Anti-Slavery Magazine. Vol 1 No 4 (July 1836) New York: The American Anti-Slavery Society, 1836. Original thin paper covers present front and back. Front cover approx 1/3 separated from top at spine. No paper on spine. Some chipping on cover edges with tiny paper loss back cover - some small creasing and a few pages have dog ear corners. Front cover has some very light pencil writing.  Light scattered foxing throughout, else very good or better. Rare in the trade.  Elizur Wright (1804-1885) was a mathematician and abolitionist. While serving as professor of mathematics at Western Reserve College, he came across the writings of William Lloyd Garrison, and became convinced that slavery should be immediately abolished and that sending Blacks to Africa was cruel and unnecessary. In 1833, Wright became on of the founders of the American Anti-Slavery Society. Besides the Anti-Slavery Quarterly, Wright also edited the Emancipator and Human Rights. [US]
