Vtg Mourning Necklace pendant Sterling Amethyst Paste? Seed Pearls&chain.
Here we have a very beautiful necklace. I am saying that it is a mourning necklace based on the glass door which is hinged and opens to put hair or pictures inside. It is marked Sterling on the spring ring clasp. The chain seems original to the pendant as there is no soldering or anything and it is all attached in one piece to the the chain and the bale. There are seven little seed pearls on the chain. I don’t know if this is paste or a real amethyst. I found a very similar necklace on collectors weekly and she is referring to it as an amethyst. Please see picture number 12 which is the necklace I was referring to in collectors weekly. The one that I am showing in picture 12 has the same clear glass door in the back.I have no idea if it is a real amethyst. Anyway the stone is faceted and a beautiful deep purple which is bezel set in the non-magnetic setting. I am not sure if the rest of the setting is sterling. There are two little pearls that are missingAnd I have pointed them out in one of the last pictures with two little arrows. One of the bezel set small amethyst stones is a little bit washed out. But all stones are present. The large amethyst stone measures 23 mmBy 20 mm and that stone is surrounded by tiny seed pearls which are all present. This is a Lavalier type necklace because it hangs down on a single chain. The entire necklace hangs down 13 1/2From the spring ring clasp and the motif hanging down from the single chain is 4 inches incl the chain and the remainder of the chain is 20 inches when it’s single and 10 inches when it’s doubled.
